Free Bouncy Rides!

WTF?! Well in their own words...

Club Animals (Est. 2008) is a regression from adulthood. Obama said that now is the time to put off childish things, but we could not disagree more. In these times of job loss, government bailouts, and even a potential Depression, Club Animals has turned from adult concerns of money and finances and concentrated our minds on to those of children. Can you think back to a time when you didn't care how much money you had in your pocket? Can you remember a time when you just wanted to play? Club Animals has embraced childhood, and the time when what was valued most was fun, horseplay, and experimentation without worrying about "reality."

Perverts. More Here.

THE GREAT OUT DOORS Opening May 2nd!

from Artbreak Gallery...

THE GREAT OUT DOORS BRINGS OUTSIDE ART INDOORS

STREET ARTISTS ILLUSTRATE DOORS AS CANVASES AT ARTBREAK GALLERY

MAY 2 - 29, 2009

The urban door is one of the most frequently used canvases for street and graffiti artists around the world, it’s frame providing temporary shelter for the elusive artist, it’s surface proclaiming missives for all the world to see. The door is the subject of the landmark group exhibition, the Great Out Doors, on view at Williamsburg’s Artbreak Gallery from the 2nd to the 29th of May, 2009.

Curated by Billi Kid and Luna Park, the exhibit features approximately 30 doors, re-appropriated by some of today’s hottest artists working the street. This show offers each artist the opportunity to expand on painting, stenciling and wheatpasting skills honed on the streets.

Street and graffiti artists love to work within the metropolitan environment and pay close attention to all available exterior facades, most notably the door.

Each of the following participants in the show has at one point or another transformed a door or two for public consumption:

Billi Kid, Blanco, Broken Crow, Buildmore, Cake, C-Damage, Celso, Cern, Chris (RWK), Deeker, Destroy&Rebuild, Dude Company, Feral, Goldenstash, Imminent Disaster, Infinity, Kngee, LA 2, Matt Siren, Morgan Thomas, Peru Ana Ana Peru, Plasma Slugs, Veng (RWK), Royce Bannon, Skullphone, Stickman, Windowzoo and Yassie Goldie.

The exhibit will also features "Street Doors" a slide photo show by Luna Park.

Artbreak Gallery is proud to bring in the doors. Our gallery began with an excitement for what was happening outside and a desire to capture the illusive evasive “street”, “graffiti”,“urban” art. We are overwhelmed by the response and caliber of these fine artists.

Learn to Communicate Like a Fucking Normal Person Opens Tomorrow!

Our boy, Pat Berran, featured in The Nasty, is in a group show opening tomorrow.
Learn to Communicate Like a Fucking Normal Person
Curated by Anastasia Rogers and Jessie Cohan
Patrick Berran
Alex Hubbard
David Malek
Davina Semo
Mika Tajima
John Tremblay
James Weingrod
April 30 - May 30, 2009
Opening reception: Thursday, April 30, 7-9pm
Art Production Fund 299 West Houston Street
“Learn to Communicate Like a Fucking Normal Person” highlights an elliptical and overlapping conversation currently taking place between these artists. Malek and Weingrod critically deploy mathematical models and theories of natural phenomena as key components of their artistic practices. Tremblay’s shaped canvases are an act of rebellion. Semo conveys a mood of low-lying despair through organic forms, as Tajima culls architectural references from unfinished condos and mismatched car parts. Hubbard and Berran are process-driven: Berran’s paintings meditatively obliterate the gestures of his own hand, while Hubbard playfully layers techniques like film production and printmaking.
The featured works vary from large-scale paintings and shaped canvases to small wooden sculptures. The works’ cohesion lies in a form of communication devoid of the obvious, but not of the observable. Each piece draws from a disparate point of reference, rendering a lucid dialogue that uses subtext, detachment and craft to engage the viewer. Delivered with intellectual vigor and offering indeterminate meanings, sound resonates through structure, stroke, and form. The diverse languages employed are abstract, emotive, scientific, geometric, and ephemeral. Nonetheless, they share a formal grammar of line,
shape, palette, and abstraction.

Homegrown Hydro Biz Grows as Economy Sucks!

So the argument is why not legalize something that obviously can't be "warred" upon any longer. Legalize it and tax it! This is a multi BILLION dollar industry. It's not going away and as the
Mexican border wars get worse the idea of a peaceable industry run by American entrepreneurs not gangsters begins to make a lot of sense. Duh. So here's a little story on our slice of the American pie...from NY Post.

Draw with your bike!

From Studio Gelardi: Contrail is a tool for developing bicycle communities. As you ride, contrail leaves a faint chalk line behind your bike. The goal is to encourage a new cycle of biking participation by allowing the biking community to leave a unique mark on the road and to reclaim this crucial shared space.

The old cycle: More cars on the road --> more percieved danger for bikers --> fewer bikers on road --> even more cars on the road.

The new cycle: A few bicyclists ride with contrail a couple times per week --> faint lines on the road inspire curiosity and remind bikers where it's safe to ride --> new bikers are encouraged to ride and use contrail --> contrail lines get brighter as community grows.

FUN!

I know, it's sez "Dienasty"...

But this is something to think about..."Some 21 percent of autopsies for New York City bicyclists who died within three hours of their accidents detected alcohol in the body, according to a Department of Health and Mental Hygiene study that examined fatal bicycling accidents in New York City from 1996 to 2005." from the NYTimes article here
I know from my own experience how completely wasted friends and I myself have been before getting on our bikes to ride home. Never thought it was a good idea before, maybe seemed fun at the time/sometimes scary, but this article gives me pause. Gotta live a little more nasty, minus the drinking and riding, before dying nasty, which is more of a state of mind than a physical state of don't wanna look at that catastrophe cuz it'll make me wanna puke.
This public service annoucement brought to you by DIENASTY.
