Arik Roper!

So I meant to post this last Friday but I forgot in my excitement of going to see the Melvins, which if you went count yourself lucky cuz it was 2 hrs of pure radness! Speaking of radness, Arik Roper's show at Gavin Brown Enterprise, is not to be missed. The small watercolors done in Arik's distinct style of pen and watercolor are amazing. The pictures of magick mushrooms make up his book on the same subject. The book itself is just as beautiful. I got a chance to meet and speak with Arik, which in and of itself was awesome as I'm a huge fan of his work and of a lot of the bands/clients he works with, and not surprisingly he's a really down to earth guy. Go check it out! 620 Geenwich St, upstairs!

Hounddog, Happy Birthday. Cheer up.

While reading about the controversy surrounding the movie Hounddog with Dakota Fanning on the IMDB, I came across "plantsamusements" an IMDB messageboard poster. I didn't know the inmates at Arkham had FIOS.

Here is a sample of "plantsamusements'" postings:

RE:Anyone like this move?
I don't like this movie because one of bad filmed "Raped Scene" You are sick! Jesus say what a great child actor and actress to make a good filmed. What the god alway say to Dakota Fanning but no one doing very good show. I already paid for about 67 DVD's from a bunch of stores and a mall then i have to throw away into firepit and then burn that away.

VIRGINIA COLONISTS PRACTICED CANNIBALISM

During the harsh winter of 1609-1610, British subjects in the famous colony of Jamestown, Virginia, ate their dead and their shit. This fact doesn't make it into very many US history textbooks, and the state's official Website apparently forgot to mention it in their history section.
When you think about it rationally, this fact should be a part of mainstream history. After all, it demonstrates the strong will to survive among the colonists. It shows the mind-boggling hardships they endured and overcame. Yet the taboo against eating these two items is so over-powering that this episode can't be mentioned in conventional history. Luckily, an unconventional historian, Howard Zinn, revealed this fact in his classic A People's History of the United States. Food was so nonexistent during that winter, only 60 out of 500 colonists survived. A government document from that time gives the gruesome details:
Driven thru insufferable hunger to eat those things which nature most abhorred, the fleshand excrements of man as well of our own nation as of an Indian, digged by some out of his grave after he had lain buried three days and wholly devoured him; others, envying the better state of body of any whom hunger has not yet so much wasted as their own, lay wait and threatened to kill and eat them; one among them slew his wife as she slept in his bosom, cut her in pieces, salted her and fed upon her till he had clean devoured all parts saving her head.

From the disinfo book "50 Things You're Not Supposed to Know"

If you look closely at the scene in "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" when they are starving that winter, Linus is gutting Franklin behind a stack of wood.
